Dear Docutils users,

the `Docutils SVN repository`__ now holds a revised and improved
version of the new "math" directive and role.

__ http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/dev/repository.html

Changes:

Input

* Unicode symbols in the LaTeX code are converted to the respective
LaTeX commands (if supported by LaTeX, amsmath, or amssymb).

HTML

* New version of the "HTML" math-output converter `math2html` from
  elyxer__.
  Test output: http://svn.berlios.de/viewvc/docutils/trunk/docutils/test/functional/expected/math_output_html.html

Requires the "math.css" style sheet provided in the writers/html4css1/
  directory alongside "default.css".

__ http://elyxer.nongnu.org/

* Small fixes and better error reporting of the native "MathML" math-output
  converter.

  Test output:
  http://svn.berlios.de/viewvc/docutils/trunk/docutils/test/functional/expected/math_output_mathml.xhtml
(download and open with a MathML capable browser to see the
  expected rendering).

The combination of the "transitional" XHTML style and MathML is not
officially supported. Valid XHTML+MathML documents can be generated
with the html_strict writer in the sandbox.

* Official support for the "LaTeX" math-output option.

  Test output:
  http://svn.berlios.de/viewvc/docutils/trunk/docutils/test/functional/expected/math_output_latex.html

* New "MathJax" output option.

Uses the publicly available MathJax__ JavaScript display engine to get a
scaling, accessible rendering of LaTeX math in any browser.

  Test output:
  http://svn.berlios.de/viewvc/docutils/trunk/docutils/test/functional/expected/math_output_mathjax.html

__ http://www.mathjax.org/

Documentation for the various HTML math output options is currently still
at the `TODO page`__ in the section about math support.

__ http://svn.berlios.de/viewvc/docutils/trunk/docutils/docs/dev/todo.txt

Test and enjoy,

G√ľnter
