Hi Jon,

I’m a “true” 20WPM Extra so I’ll try to help out. :-)

The power cord and data cable have nothing to do with each other. How you power the radio while up/downloading makes no difference. It also doesn’t seem to matter whether the radio is on when you plug in the data cable. I’ve done it every possible way with no problem. So no need to worry.

Subject: [TH-F6A] Data Cable Question

Hi All!  I am a no-code extra so someone will have to explain this slowly to me...  I just bought the programming cable for my radio and I realize that with the charger - if you connect it wrong - not so good.

I realize that both my computer and radio have power sources.  Do I need to connect the cable to one first and then the other?  Also - is there any correct order when pulling the plug from the radio and the computer?

And - can or should I have the radio powered on while making the connection(s)?

Just thought I would check first and try to avoid frying both the radio and the computer.

Thanks in advance!  I want to back-up my frequencies and settings on the computer and disks...
