Subject: Re: GMRS bands Newsgroups: gmane.recreation.radio.hardware.kenwood.th-f6a Date: 2008-03-26 14:06:13 GMT (14 weeks, 3 days, 8 hours and 58 minutes ago) Sorry if I misstated. What I meant was I can not find an active amateur radio license. I saw the GMRS. Also, Sean, your FRN is public (the FCC ULS database shows it on any license that you hold.) I still think that a GMRS radio (type accepted) would be in your best interest. Also, the officials' band, if using anything other than GMRS, and unlicensed bands, (such as MURS), will likely also require a license OR type accepted transmitter. My 2 cents: Instead of a $300 invitation for trouble, grab a GMRS radio at Wal-Mart (or similar store) and some sort of receiver for the other band. Scanners run under $ 100 bucks at Wal-Mart as do GMRS radios at 5 W. I like the ARES or local ham club idea suggested as well but, if you need to directly communicate, try a scanner and GMRS handheld combo. I am not sure why my license does not come up on the FCC website. I have paid $85 for my license. With my FCC radio station authorization letter in hand with a call sign that states WQIK399. i also have my FRN # but i probably should not publicize that. the effective date is 03-04-2008 with an expiration of 03-04-2013. i do not know how else to prove that i am not some "made up call sign type" that some are claiming i am. anyway...... > > He is right, he does have a GMRS License. > ------------------------------------ |
