Rather than carry an HT with a large battery attached all the time for those few times when I might need the extra Amp-Hours for an event or an emergency, I picked up a surplus 12 Volt gel-cell at a flea market and charged it with a bench power supply.

For $10 I bought a small camera pouch that has a strong belt loop and placed the gel-cell in the pouch.  I connected the battery to the radio through an in-line fuse.  The whole setup costs less than buying one of the special batteries sold for the F6.  While the F6 will not transmit with the wall-wart power supply, it does transmit with this external battery connected.
