I've just installed a machine with the following partition layout:

/dev/hda2 /boot	ext2
/dev/hda3 swap
/dev/hda3 /	reiserfs
/dev/hda3 /etc	reiserfs
/dev/hda3 /var	reiserfs

When I boot the machine starts fine but it does not mount the /etc slice
and stops when accessing the inittab file.

I'm using a manualy built kernel 2.6.5 on x86, I do have dev file system
in the kernel mounted at boot and ext2 + reiserfs support in the kernel.

I'm sure I did this before without trouble. But to get the machine to
boot now I need to copy the etc directory onto the root slice.

How do I fix this?
