Yes. > Wouldn't that have been upgraded in a normal emerge -u world? No. The old 2.X.X series compiles isn't binary compatible with the new 3.2.X series. This means that if you upgraded only the compiler, things would break since binaries built with the old compiler wouldn't work together with the new binaries. Upgrading form 1.2 to 1.4 you had to compile the whole system with the new compiler. You can still see the effects of the compiler change with self compiled mozilla and the precompiled sun-java. They just wont work together.
