  by Dwight Schauer (http://freshmeat.net/users/das67/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 23:54

About: allowdirectportio allows user-space Linux programs to access I/O
directly on an x86 platform or hardware with a similar I/O model. It
grants permissions to ports specified in the C source file before setting
the effective user ID of the program back to that of the user that
invoked it.

Changes: This release supports going to I/O permission level 3 to allow
access to PCI ports.

[027] - GiNaC 1.2.1
  by Christian Bauer (http://freshmeat.net/users/cebix/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 13:52

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GiNaC (GiNaC is Not a CAS (Computer Algebra System)) is a C++
library for symbolic calculations. It is designed to allow the creation of
integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more
established areas of computer science (like computation-intense numeric
applications, graphical interfaces, etc.). Contrary to other CASes it does
not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple
programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and
extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.

Changes: Bugs in the evaluation of atan2(), the library initialization,
and the series expansion were fixed, and some automatic evaluations for
trigonometric functions with negative arguments were added.

[028] - glark 1.7.0
  by Jeff Pace (http://freshmeat.net/users/JEugenePace/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 08:36

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Filters
Text Processing :: General

About: glark offers grep-like searching of text files, with very powerful,
complex regular expressions (e.g., "/foo\w+/ and /bar[^\d]*baz$/ within 4
lines of each other"). It also highlights the matches, displays context
(preceding and succeeding lines), does case-insensitive matches, and
automatic exclusion of non-text files. It supports most options from the
GNU version of grep.

Changes: This release adds a --config option for dumping the current
configuration, a diff-line break ("---") as optional break between context
blocks, and a feature to split an argument by path separator, for
searching recursively along a path. It extends "--and NUM" to support the
"--and=NUM" format. It fixes the --exclude-matching option and highlighted
strings (so that the ANSI codes are not matched with regexps). It refines
--help output into more logical sections.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: GoodProfOrNot is a database and Web system for organizing,
interpreting, and presenting course survey results. It features colored
rating bars, plots, statistical comparisons, and cross-referencing.

Changes: This release adds use of 404 instead of 200 for "error" pages
(mainly to make Google stop spidering Error pages), better handling of
inconsistent databases (collecting errors and printing a message at the
end, instead of throwing an exception), improved caching (recover from
broken cache files, use a temporary file, lock the cache file, don't cache
all objects, specifically not Evaluationanswers), disk caching for CGI
output, the ability to disambiguate professors by first name if necessary,
a new intuitive URL scheme for dynamic pages, and bugfixes and

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing

About: IMMS Magical Favorites Collector uses IMMS collected information to
find your favorite songs, and then do the hard work of compiling a
CD/DVD/MP3 player full of your favorites. It can provide a top 10 songs
linked to a directory of your choice, or your favorite 700 MB of songs for
an MP3 CD, etc. It preserves the pathnames of files, so that the resulting
collection will reflect the main collection.

Changes: All dependencies not required by IMMS (the target of this
utility) are now optional. The GTK2 user interface and its GTKMM
dependency is now configure-time optional. You can now limit by media
size (collection length) to make building music CDs or (cough) 8-tracks

[067] - Roster 2.3.3
  by David Bellizzi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dbelliz/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 23:27

About: Roster is a PHP/mySQL application that manages a team's roster,
chain of command and battles. It manages awards, ranks, units, bio
infomation, statistics, and much more for each member of your team. It has
a protected administrative interface with an extensible permission system
for delegation of tasks, and also supports the management and scheduling
of battles and multi-battles via the Battle Center. Roster fully supports
the tracking NetBattleTech league battles and can be configured to support
a subset of battle properties for other leagues or just ad-hoc matches.
Its Battle Center will also track tactical and statistical data for your
opponents and maps. The look and feel of almost all aspects can be changed
via a CSS file and Smarty templates.

Changes: An improved user interface, a "who's online" list in the main BC
screen, a refresh button in the opponent page, user permissions, and
better session support. The commands code was rewritten, and a map
update and all support league update buttons were added (Admin access
only). The drop importer now recognizes the number of battles, and the
league shortname is now displayed in the Battle Center Leagues box. The
NBTM league import was vastly improved. The CSS and layout were reworked
for tighter display of information, and 99% of the CSS was consolidated
into one file.

About: silk web is a Web-based hypertext tool with an emphasis on linking.
Creating links between nodes in silk requires just one mouse click -- you
never need to manually type node identifiers (e.g. URLs or CamelCase node
titles). It can also track links to the external Web, and you can manage
these links with the same one-click functionality. It works well for
organizing ideas and the connections between them (it was designed for
personal note-taking), though it can also function as a public space for
collaboration, much like a Wiki (like a Wiki with smooth linking).

[071] - sql2data 2.0
  by paul kremer (http://freshmeat.net/users/nofutureuk/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 10:38

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: sql2data fetches DNS information from an SQL database and dumps
then in tinydns-data format into the file 'data'. Additional static DNS
data from the text file static_data are copied into 'data'. sql2data
optionally executes 'make' upon successful export/dump. Backups can be
made to the files old_data and good_data.cdb. Optionally, DNS NOTIFY
packets may be sent to the different nameservers referenced for the
different zones.

Changes: The SQL table layout was more or less completely changed to match
VegaDNS so that they can be used together. Some documentation and support
files have been added. SQL tables can have a prefix, which is
configurable. There are code formatting changes and POD (embedded man
page) documentation. Sending of DNS notifies has been disabled (it will be
re-added in later versions).

[072] - Stabilizer 0.1.0
  by Amir Michail (http://freshmeat.net/users/amir/)
  Friday, April 23rd 2004 23:54

Software Development

About: Stabilizer is a system that aims to quickly stabilize buggy GUI
applications so that people can get real work done with them. Users can
collaboratively and quickly stabilize applications simply by using it
normally and reporting any bugs that they encounter to prevent anyone
(including themselves) from encountering them again. As soon as a few
people report the same bug, warnings will be issued to all users
whenever they are about to trigger that bug and they will be given the
opportunity to abort the input event. The bugs need to be fixed
eventually, but this makes the application useful in the meantime.

About: Tcpreplay is a set of Unix tools which allows the replaying of
captured network traffic in pcap (tcpdump) format. It can be used to test
a variety of network devices including routers, firewalls, and NIDS.

Changes: This release included a number of bugfixes and enhancements in
both tcpreplay and tcpprep. Key enhancements allow more complete pcap
rewriting, better support for pcap files larger than 2GB, and the
ability to track how cache files are created and embed user comments.
Note that the tcpprep file format has changed and due to a bug in earlier
