When I load the madwifi driver, I start a ping to the AP :
[root <at> localhost network-scripts]# ping 192.168.1.10

I have tried with ndiswrapper. The ping works immediately, but I have a big latence.

my ifcfg-ath0 :

Any idea ?

ps : when I try to compile the 2.6.27 kernel on redhat ws 4 (to use the ath9k driver), the boot stopped at
storage initialisation.
All the ata and sata modules are present. any idea ?

I don't know. You may want to describe it in more detail.

If you want WPA in the client side, you need wpa_supplicant. If Red Hat
does not package it, you'll need to install it from source. There is an
example configuration file in the sources.

Be warned that Red Hat and even the latest Fedora don't integrate WPA
support with the "ifcfg" mechanism from initscripts. You may need to
write a local script to start wpa_supplicant on boot. An alternative is
to use NetworkManager, but I doubt that your version of Red Hat has it.
