In Openwrt, the madwifi package is built as kernel modules by selecting kernel modules ----> wireless drives--->kmod-madwifi. On bootup, openwrt loads the madwifi modules and /etc/config/wireless option is disabled by default. As openwrt directly loads the kernel modules, I didn't use modprobe ath_pci and modprobe is not built into the kernel. After bootup, I did root <at> OpenWrt:~# wlanconfig ath0 destroy wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device root <at> OpenWrt:~# to make sure that any script might have created it. and iwconfig shows root <at> OpenWrt:~# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions. wifi0 no wireless extensions. root <at> OpenWrt:~# followed by creation of wds link as root <at> OpenWrt:~# wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode wds wlanconfig: ioctl: Input/output error root <at> OpenWrt:~# wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap ath0 root <at> OpenWrt:~# wlanconfig ath create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode wds wlanconfig: ioctl: Input/output error root <at> OpenWrt:~# Strange problem and I couldn't find the source of this issue. > I tried loading ath_pci with "autocreate=none", and I still cannot > reproduce your problem by executing exactly the same commands as you > have posted. I also tried loading ath_pci with no parameters, removing > ath0 and following your commands. It still worked. Yes, I have used working version of madwifi in other distribution. > Regards, > Pavel Roskin MSN Technology brings you the latest on gadgets, gizmos and the new hits in the gaming market.
