When I google for "access point mode" and ath5k, I find that "it's not 
working yet".

Has anyone insight about how far away this is, and if there is a chance 
to try this out even with some functionality limited?

I have a card which works fine with the ath5k, and I'd rather wait some 
days (few weeks) to have it work in AP mode instead of going back...
