I've the same problem with last madwifi snapshot, and using 2.6.24.7 linux
kernel, the configuration seems to be ok, but something failed silently.
May be a kernel module missing, or something.
It failed when using WPA, or WPA2 mode, the clearer error is:
Could not set station <...> flags for kernel driver (errno=29).
Theses functions are in the madwifi driver, and not is the mainstream
kernel. So may be a module is missing... But debugging that is quite
impossible...
