Subject: Re: User agent stats Newsgroups: gmane.discuss Date: 2007-03-10 11:21:48 GMT (1 year, 26 weeks, 1 day, 1 hour and 30 minutes ago) I've now finished fiddling with the raw-user-agent-string-to-agent-id script, and the results are here: <URL: http://gmane.org/user-agents.php> Ok, the chart is kinda difficult to read, but there are a couple of things that stand out. Firstly, Mozilla users have switched to Thunderbird. Secondly, Gmail started. Thirdly, Mac OS X is selling. Fourthly, and this can't be seen in this chart, but can be seen in the detailed ones, nobody else has stopped using anything else. The percentages for everything else is dropping like a stone (Mutt from 12% to 6%), but the posting rate from each mail agent seem to be very stable. It's just that none of them get new users except Thunderbird, Apple Mail and Gmail. All us dinosaurs are sticking to our mail readers, while new users are using one of the new pointy-clicky mail readers that are more-or-less integrated into what they already use. Perhaps I should do a combined chart that plots posting rate for the top 12 in addition to the percentage chart... -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) larsi <at> gnus.org * Lars Magne Ingebrigtsen |
