Sauniere's Model and the Secret of Rennes-le-Château - André Douzet

In 1916, Berenger Sauniere, the enigmatic priest of the French
village of Rennes-le-Chateau, created his ultimate clue: he went to
great expense to create a model of a region said to be the Calvary
Mount, indicating the "Tomb of Jesus. But the region on the model
does not resemble the actual layout of Jerusalem. Did Sauni6re leave
a clue as to the true location of his treasure? And what is that
treasure? After years of research, Andre Douzet discovered this
model, never collected from the model maker by Sauniere, who had died
just before the model's completion. Backed by evidence showing
correspondence between Sauniere and the model maker, Douzet also
reveals much new evidence, including the revelation that Sauniere
spent large amounts of time and money in the city of Lyons, often on
exotic and high tech photographic instruments. And for the first
time, it is shown Sauni&e met some very interesting people from
esoteric. in particular Martinist, circles in Lyons.

This body of evidence for the first time demonstrates there is indeed
a true mystery surrounding this village priest a theory widely
speculated on so far by others authors, but seldom if ever backed by
evidence. The model is the only real clue Sauniere left behind as to
the nature and location of his treasure and is unveiled in this book,
which includes pictures and detailed drawings of the model, among
many other things. It also reveals the location of the region where
Sauniere had located his treasure... and where Douzet himself has so
far recovered large quantities of precious and semi-precious
materials. Above all, Douzet demonstrates that the grounds of
Perillos not so much hold a treasure (though present), but rather
a "secret", and that this secret was the true importance of
Sauni~re's mystery; a secret that is said to be of vital importance
and terrifying force.

The Treasure Trove of the Knights Templars.

Part 2 of 2.
THE TREASURE HUNT BEGINS.
The first organised search of the treasure trove left by de Beaujeu
was organised by one of his descendants, Anne de Beaujeu. She talked
about "very old documents that testified about the presence of a
major and historical depot". The men entering the underground network
of tunnels were decimated by traps that had probably been put in
place by Count de Beaujeu. Anne de Beaujeu eventually gave up and had
the entrance to the underground network sealed off.

In 1914, the new owner of the castle, Duke Pierre de Rosemont, felt
the time was ripe for a new enterprise. After breaking down the wall
that Anne de Beaujeu had built, the Duke opened the entrance to the
underground caverns. One of his workmen, however, had his legs
crushed when he was hit by two stone balls that rolled out of a wall
another trap installed so many centuries earlier. De Rosemont decided
to change his tactics and opted for safer methods. After some
scouting of his own, de Rosemont discovered a hole that led
downwards, so he decided to try to reach the treasure on his own.
One of the Duke's descendants claims to have excellent evidence
concluding that Pierre de Rosemont was able to gain access to the
tomb of Camus said to be very close to the secret treasure of the
Knights Templars. Apparently, though, having almost reached his goal,
the Duke was struck by violent blows and cries emanating from below,
balls of mauve fire encircling the room and strange odours and
visions. When the water began to rise mysteriously, he decided to
retreat as quickly as he could. Upon reaching the surface, he decided
never to return, so he made sure that no one would ever discover the
hole through which he had reached the underground network.

The oldest part of the castle is a tower, the "Tower of the Eight
Beauties". Constructed in red bricks, its walls are more than one
metre thick. It appears circular from the outside, but inside, on the
first floor, the tower becomes octagonal. At the top are eight
openings that appear to have no functional use. It is also known as
the "Tower of Alchemy", for the walls were once covered with
alchemical symbols. Though these symbols are almost invisible today,
but we have photographic records of them in our possession.

It was towards this tower that two of the greatest alchemists of our
age set course: Eugene Canselier and Armand Barbault, the author
of "Gold of a Thousand Mornings". Their visit to the castle was not a
tourist outing, instead, Barbault and his wife stayed there for
several weeks in the company of the now infamous Jacques Breyer.
In 1950, a mysterious English colonel came to Arginy and asked
whether the owner, Gilbert Marie Jacques de Chambrun d'Uxeloup de
Rosemont, was willing to sell the estate for no less than one hundred
million French francs. De Rosemont flatly refused. Two years later,
he and Jacques Breyer decided to have another go at discovering the
treasure of Arginy.

THE BIRTH OF NEO-TEMPLARISM.
The new team decided to dig underneath the Tower of the Eight
Beauties. In their search they hit upon the underground stream that
was responsible for the sudden flooding that had plagued previous
seekers. Jacques Breyer believed that the Templar treasures at Arginy
consisted of several different forms, each requiring a certain kind
of focus on his part if he was going to find them. He believed that
there was a material treasure, taken from the Treasury of the Temple
in Paris and therefore possibly involving large quantities of gold; a
spiritual treasure, detailing the rituals and doctrines of the Order;
and an esoteric treasure, a treasure of Wisdom that contained
information on magic and Hermetic rituals. Breyer also believed that
the castle might have been specifically converted into an "alchemical
stronghold" so that certain alchemical experiments could take place
there. In any case, it does seem that alchemical thought was applied
in the Tower's construction.

The birth date of neo-Templarism is currently accepted as 12 June
1952, the birthplace: Arginy. The event is often referred to as
the "the Resurgence of Arginy". Indeed, Arginy became the focal point
of the Rosicrucians, Freemasons and other strange orders as well as
numerous "Templar Orders". Important figures made visits to the
castle. Amongst the visitors was Constantin Melnik, head of the
French Secret Service and confidant of the French Minister of the
Interior, Michel Debre, who visited the castle in 1959. Guarded by
members of the Secret Service who cordoned off the entire castle,
Melnik reportedly participated in night-time ceremonies held within
the castle walls.

It was on 12 June 1952 that the first such alchemical ritual was
held. Conducted by Breyer, Barbault and his psychic wife and other
people, some of whom were merely attendants. Breyer, who believed he
was the reincarnation of Jacques de Molay, tried to reach the ghost
of Guillaume de Beaujeu, whose remains had been placed close to the
treasure underneath the treasure. Apparently Breyer was successful in
this attempt, as de Beaujeu had asked for a certain ritual to be
performed so that his spirit could be brought back to life. The
ritual supposedly involved the sexual union between man and wife at
Arginy, whereupon the resulting child would be the reincarnation of
the former Grand Master.

Breyer stayed on at Arginy castle from 1952 until 1959. He stated
that it was "a haunted place, but in the loftiest sense of the word:
it is a place of high initiation." For seven long years, Breyer did
fill kinds of occult works and magical rituals, hoping to contact the
souls of eleven Templars whose spirits had been charged with guarding
the treasure that lay in Arginy's subterranean chambers. Perhaps the
entire history of Breyer's searches seems foolish, but it is known
that during those seven years he did discover an underground chamber
and locate many entrances to the underground kingdom of Arginy. He
reportedly found several small objects that were lying in numerous
small holes. Some of these objects are allegedly kept in a private
collection.

During his time at the castle, Breyer prepared several books, but
these are difficult to access at present. His most famous book
is "Arcanes Solaires", "dedicated to the Ancient 'Arch Masters',
eleven in all, who came to help me during my seven-year stay at the
castle of S." In referring to Arginy, Breyer always denoted it with
the letter "S", or, even more commonly, with the symbol "$". Breyer
indicated that Arcanes Solaires is the resume of the secret
inheritance of the last Grand Master of the Temple, Jacques de Molay.
He claimed to have told this story to the walls of the castle, and,
like certain inhabitants before him, to have placed alchemical
graffiti on the castle walls.

Breyer then rounded a neo-Templar order, the Sovereign Order of the
Solar Temple. Although this Order cannot be confused with the Order
of the Solar Temple, responsible for the collective suicide of 53
people in Canada and Switzerland in 1994 and of 16 people in France
in 1995, it is understood that Jacques Breyer was the great
inspiration behind the foundation of the Order of the Solar Temple
and also knew its leaders.

The Sovereign Order of the Solar Temple, however, was supposed to be
the new Order of the Knights Templars. The eleven entities with whom
Breyer conversed had requested that Breyer raise the spirit of former
Grand Master Guillaume de Beaujeu in order that he could guard the
development of the "resurgence" of his Order. As the story goes,
everything had been put in place so that the ritual could be
conducted, but apparently something was not quite right at the last
moment. Something happened that no one had prepared for and the
experiment turned into a nightmare. Through personal research and
interviews with the local villagers who lived on and around the
estate, we learned that strange noises, followed by horrible cries
coming from the Tower of the Eight Beauties were heard ever more
frequently. Luminous events sparked off by these rituals preceded the
fierce escape of the participants.

Even though the resurrection of Guillaume de Beaujeu was probably
unsuccessful, it seems quite certain that some or several of the
eleven guardians were liberated but chose to remain voluntary
captives of Arginy castle.

The Sovereign Order of the Solar Temple (OSTS) was the exoteric
result of the initiates' constant participation in events that
transpired at the castle. The Order elected its first Grand Master in
1966 and announced its existence the following year in the form of an
association. The Order was officially recognised by Prince Rainier
III of Monaco, the location of the Order's official headquarters.
Book publishing is one of its functions.

The OSTS was the inspiration for most neo-Templar orders that have
subsequently seen the light of day, including the already mentioned
Order of the Solar Temple, but also the Renovated Order of the
Temple, the ORT. Researchers investigating these orders claim to have
found evidence that they are closely connected to extreme right-wing
circles, particularly the Italian Propaganda Due, P2. Even if this is
correct, it should be noted that from its inception the OSTS seems to
have been of a totally different calibre. Indeed, it is more likely
that any such links were merely the result of certain people's
interest in Breyer's works and his organisation.

THE SECRETS STAY HIDDEN.
Though numerous places claim to hold the treasure of the Templars
(some as far as away as Canada), Arginy is arguably the only place
where such important events have transpired. Though several people
would wish that the castle and what has transpired there, did not
become public knowledge, if only because of the gruesome events that
eventually led to the collective suicides of 1994 and 1995, it should
be remembered that what took place at Arginy had one goal: to give
mankind an important revelation. In former centuries, such
information was held by the secret circle within the Knights
Templars. This may explain why Breyer and other key people went to
Arginy in the years following 1952 and participated in strange
magical rituals: they believed Arginy held the key to something very
important.

Unfortunately, whatever that revelation was, it has been suppressed.
It does seem most likely, though, that the castle holds within its
walls one of the most important secrets of the Knights Templars. When
this secret will be revealed, or whether it will be revealed at all,
is not known.

Since 1959, many people have attempted to fathom this enigmatic
secret. Having lived around the castle of Arginy, I am aware that
many curious, painful and sometimes dangerous things happen every
time someone tries to grasp the terrible secret. Local folklore has
it that only one person is designated and recognised by the deceased
Templars to have access to them without risk to his or her life. The
tradition thus reactivated, it is claimed that the Order shall rise
from its ashes towards a higher and more certain glory.
Perhaps the French author Robert Charroux found the key when he
deciphered this passage from Breyer's book: "Think hard: the great
art is Knowledge."

Jacques Breyer - Writer esoterist
(March 27, 1922 - Loire-Atlantique, April 25, 1996)

Resulting from a family of trader-wine growers, it passes his
childhood to Anjou, near to nature. Its secondary studies stopped by
the war, it engages in Resistance, second lieutenant in the forces
Comet Escape (certificates of the Eisenhower General and the Tedder
marshal for services rendered to the allied forces), is stopped by
Gestapo (April 1944), and is off-set in Buchenwald then Flöha
(Saxony), where it binds friendship with Robert Desnos. After the
Release, reached tuberculosis, it leaves to be looked after in the
Pyrenees Orientales where his/her mother gives some objects to him
having belonged to her maternal grandfather, companion mason stone,
including one grimoire on medicine by the plants where it discovers
esoteric keys. Having a military pension of large invalid of war and
some family revenues, it engages then in an initiatory search which
will be the object of all its life.

Entered in connection (1951) with the count de Rosemont, owner of the
medieval castle of Arginy, in Beaujolais wine, it tries to interpret
the esoteric significance of graffitis of the keep, and settles
(spring 1952) for seven years, in the contiguous farm. He undertakes
in the keep of the theurgic operations, incidentally looks after the
animals and the patients with the firm neighbor, and gives some
conferences, in Lyon and Paris. He makes the knowledge (May 1952) of
the journalist Marcel Veyre de Bagot, who is in Arginy to write an
article on the site, sympathizes with this one and tries with him a
theurgic operation (June 12, 1952) that he regards as the starting
point of a resurgence of the Order of the medieval Temple. These
seven years of retirement in Arginy inspire its the first two books
to him: Solar Dante alchemist (1957), and Mysteries or secrecies of
the solar temple (1959), which it will declare thereafter like
lacunar and comprising certain errors.

Around him is constituted then an abstract circle where occultists or
freemasons find themselves: the spagyrist and astrologer Armand
Barbault, Maxime de Roquemaure, Jean Red-headed, Jean of Foucault,
Victor Michon, Pierre de Ribaucourt, Vincent Cushy job (founder in
1958 of the Large French National Cabin Operated become today Large
Traditional Cabin and Symbolic system). This first core joint (at the
end of 1957) Jean Soucasse followed (be 1958) by Robert Chabrier and
George Sourp.

Turning the page "Arginy", it turns over partially to the profane
life, settles in Paris (1959) and separates from Jean Soucasse (who
will found on June 12, 1967 the Sovereign Order of the Solar Temple).
Raised to the rank of Master in the Cabin " Willermoz ", to Lyon
(1961), under the auspices of the Large French National Cabin, it
will however never belong formally to any maconnic obedience. It
collaborates (1960) in the review the solar voice , and very
continuously to direct workshops of research metaphysics, carries out
a life of independent man, voluntarily only, and continues as a
recluse his work of writing based on the operative geometry of the
feature, symbolism, the numbers, alchemy and the théurgie. It
publishes thus Oubah , a satirical part based on the blades of the
Tarot, whose third act, Ergonia , will be the topic of a ballet
represented with the Festival of Avignon (1967). Its major work is
composed of Ground-Omega (1972), metaphysical thesis by the feature,
which summarizes Above the tombs (1980) and that comes to supplement
Vaincre the second dead one (1984), metaphysical thesis by the
numbers. Incidentally, it publishes the occult forces of the bonsaï
(1978) and the Tarot of the great painters (1979), the Philosopher
(1989), which treats spiritualistic ecology, and operative Keys
checked (1994).

It encourages also the foundation (1970) of a publisher, a center of
conference and Ergonia workshops, in Paris, where it continues to
expose its research metaphysics regularly. Invited like lecturer with
the Foundation Way Golden delicious, where his work is studied, it is
not long in taking its distances (at the end of 1987) with Luc Jouret
and Joseph di Mambro, in front of the increasingly large oppositions
between the doctrines of this group and its own theses, and condemns
(1994) their acts in the sharpest way by denouncing them like
incompatible with its thought and its work. (Private archives Breyer
family; Serge Caillet, the Renovated Order of the temple. With the
roots of the Solar Temple , Paris, Dervy, 1997.)

VICTOR BLANCHARD: A Brief Summary of his life and work Victor
Blanchard (1878-1953) was, between the two World Wars the Sovereign
Grand Master of the Martinist Order and Synarchy, under the initiatic
name of Paul Yesir. In addition he was an important functionary of
the government administration, rising to become head of the general
secretariat for the Members of Parliament of France. He was a close
collaborator of Papus, with whom he organised the Spiritualist
Congress of June 1908. For a short time linked with Guenon, he
dissolved this alliance after the affair of the "Ordre of the Temple
Renove". Lastly he was a disciple and great admirer of Saint-Yves
d'Alveydre. According to Jean Mallinger (Sar Elgim), " his knowledge
of magnetism, and the sacred literature of Ancient Egypt were
remarkable". After the First World War, Blanchard did not recognize
the Grand Mastership of Jean Bricaud as the head of Martinism, and
with some old members of the first Supreme Council, founded his own
Martinist Order and Synarchy, on the 3rd January 1921. In the absence
of well established rules regarding the nomination or succession of a
Grand Master (the Martinist order having been founded by Papus
himself), it is impossible to say whether Bricaud or Blanchard was
the legitimate Grand Master. There were other differences that
existed between the two Martinist Orders. Bricaud who tended to place
himself in the tradition of the Elect Cohens and Pasqually and
Willermoz, reserved entry to his order to men who also had to be
Master Masons, thereby continuing the attempts by Teder to link
Martinism with Freemasonry. Blanchard remained a practitioner of
esoteric syncretism as practiced by Papus, and in a similar manner
allowed women to join and did not require the Masonic qualification.
Blanchard linked himself with Saint-Yves d'Alveydre: and he therefore
added to the title of his order the epithet "Synarchy". No doubt,
that by working at the secretariat of the Members of Parliament, he
aspired to influence, the course of political events by his occult
activities, and by disseminating the ideals of synarchy. Victor
Blanchard was also a Mason in the Grand Orient of France were he was
a member of the Grand College of Rites as well as being a dignitary
in a number of other occult orders: " L'Eglise Gnostique Universelle"
of Bricaud, (under the name of Tau Targelius) and "L'Ordre
Kabbalistique de la Rose-Croix", both organisations being directed by
Lucien Mauchel (known as Chamuel - who passed away in 1936). One
should note that both these organisations are distinct from "L'Eglise
Gnostique Catholique " and "L'Ordre de la Rose Croix Kabbalistique et
Gnostique" which were directed by Bricaud then Chevillon. Victor
Blanchard was also a member of the Order of the Lily and the Eagle (
who in their higher degrees convey the initiation of the Rose-Croix
of the Orient) where he was Commander from 1918, the Polaire
Brotherhood of which he was president from 1933, and the Pythagorean
Order in which, thanks to the links created by the FUDOSI, he
obtained the fourth and last degree: "Archonte of the Arts and
Sciences '.

He was one of the most enthusiastic founders of the FUDOSI, which
allowed him to continue the international action he commenced with
Papus in June 1908, and conferred a new legitimacy with regard to
Chevillon, who as Bricaud's successor he did not acknowledge. He was
one of the three Imperators appointed in 1934 with special
jurisdiction over Martinism and the countries of the East (Sar
Hieronymous being Imperator for Europe, and Sar Alden being Imperator
for the USA). Augustin Chaboseau replaced him as Imperator in 1939.
BLANCHARD vs. BRICAUD Jean Bricaud consecrated Victor Blanchard as
Bishop on 5th May 1920. In spite of this consecration Blanchard"
attitude to Bricaud soon became violently hostile, judging by the
following passage by Robert Ambelain (Le Martinisme 1946,p150) where
one also finds elements which undermine Jean Bricaud's legitimacy of
transmission from Teder, "who made fun of Bricaud, "disciple of
Vintras" and reproached him for having created the Church of Carmel
of Elias, and the Johannite Church, (well before the Neo-Gnostic
Catholic Church) and for "play acting the priest." "Regarding
Bricaud's alleged rights to Grand Mastership of the Martinist Order
there are also several witnesses I can remember. One of the witnesses
is still living here in Paris (Tr. Note - this was in 1946). Brother
Nicholas Choumitsky (from whom Ambelain received the Russian
filiation), of an Old Russian Martinist family… pupil and disciple of
Charles Barlet has told me: I returned to France in 1919. Teder had
died. I asked Chacornac Snr, who was therefore the Grand Master of
the Martinist Order, and he answered: It is Blanchard. I therefore
made contact with Blanchard. A meeting was organised between Bricaud
and Blanchard. It took place in a café.

Blanchard arrived with some members of his Supreme Council. Bricaud
arrived alone, bringing with him a document, framed in glass, which
claimed that Teder had nominated him as his successor. Blanchard
became violently angry, and after examination of the document, the
unanimous opinion was that it was not authentic. Bricaud left the
impression on those attending of being superficial and lacking any
depth. I then turned to Charles Barlet and asked him who was the true
successor of Teder. He smiled and said that Martinism was "a circle
whose circumference was everywhere and the centre nowhere." He
intended by this that it did not have a Grand Master. Afterwards
Madame Detre (Teder's wife) told me that her husband could not have
designated a successor since wasn't at all intending to die!
According to her he died following a magical ritual.

In any case a document remains which places Bricaud's succession in a
strange position. It is mainly to advise the dignitaries of the Order
Martiniste of Teder's death. The original document still exists in
the Archives of the Order Martiniste. It is signed Jean Bricaud 33 90
95 President of the Supreme Council and Grand Master General of the
Order. It is published so the dignitaries of the Order were advised
of the death of Teder, and that Bricaud had referred to himself as
Grand Master General in his place, they were therefore not consulted.
There was none amongst them who had elected Bricaud to the Grand
Mastership. And since Teder had not nominated anyone, as can be seen,
the result was a little too immediate.. The Grand Councils of Italy,
Spain, and of Great Britain, cut off their relations with the Supreme
Council of Lyons. A great number of French Martinists joined
Blanchard and his Martinist Order and Synarchy, others remained
isolated and rejoined Augustin Chaboseau's Traditional Martinist
Order, twelve years later.

OPENING ADDRESS TO THE MASONIC AND SPIRITUALIST CONGRESS IN 1908
Victor Blanchard was the secretary general of the Masonic and
Spiritualist Congress in 1908. In his opening discourse he referred
to it as "the first autonomous Congress of Occultism " and expressed
in conclusion the hope of seeing all the French Masonic Rites coming
to reinforce " the army of knights of Christian idealism." Here is a
passage which exemplifies his thought: "The doctrine which now
excites your curiosity so much is not new, whatever the critics of
the history of philosophy may say. If we refer to purely historical
documents, it is in the most famous Sanctuaries of India and Egypt -
inheritors of the traditional Wisdom of the black races, Atlantis and
Lemuria, that OCCULT SCIENCE was born. From there esotericism spread
to China, Iran, Chaldea, Palestine, Greece, Rome, the Gallic
countries, Germany and all over the face of the Earth. Let us not
forget that this philosophy, at once human and divine powerfully
inspired all of the founders of the great ancient religions, among
them Ram or Lam, Confucius, Krishna, Zoroaster, MOSES, and Buddha. It
is from it that that the celebrated legislators of passed ages drew
their wisest institutions. It is from this sublime source, that the
majority of poets, philosophers and sages of antiquity and of modern
times drew the best part of their great and brilliant ideas. One
rediscovers it hidden beneath the literal text of all the Holy
Scriptures of the East and West, in the parables of Jesus, right up
to the Epistles of St Paul. It was held by certain fathers of the
Church, the Gnostics, Troubadours, Trouveres, Alchemists, heads of
medieval guilds, and the intellectual elite of the Templars, who
having escaped torture and bloodshed, transmitted it later through
the intermediaries of the Rose-Croix, Freemasons, and Martinists.
HERMETICISM is the scientific, philosophic, religious and social
synthesis of the past, present and will be, without doubt, that of
the future. The theologian, philosopher, the savant, doctor, moralist
or sociologist should make the effort to study occultism where alone
they will find together with the best solutions to theological,
cosmological, anthropological and sociological enigmas, as well as
the elements which will revivify their current knowledge, and how to
regenerate the human body and soul and of the whole of society.
The historian, author and artist will also profit from these slightly
abstract studies. The first will discover the explanation of many
obscure and troubling facts; the second will easily penetrate the
higher sense of apparently absurd ancient myths and eastern fables,
and will be better able to decipher the mysteries of the human soul.
The third will be able to contemplate without tiring, the different
forms which reveal the Supreme Beauty in this world as in the other
planes of the manifested Universe, and consequently will be able to
give them more adequate physical expression than those which have
been produced before. As for those who are tormented by the deeply
anguishing problem of life after death, they will be soon understand
through exposure to our doctrines, we hope, the rational certitude
through experience of the immortality of their conscious and
spiritual principle, they will understand that Divinity wants the
best for all its creatures, and that the Heaven, Purgatory and Hell
of the naïve theologians are nothing more than the physical and moral
situations in which our soul finds itself throughout the course of
its eternal career .

They will know that Reincarnation, taught in the ancient mystery
schools, just as it was in the original Christian Church, and in
modern initiations is one of the multiple means employed by the
Sovereign Bounty (or Supreme Good), in order to hasten the animical,
intellectual and spiritual evolution of each one of us. They will see
that man works out unceasingly through the conditions, which must
preside over successive lives in time and space. They will recognize
that human beings are all united to each other not only in actions,
but also in words and above all in thought. It is by these means that
they will prepare consciously the Coming on Earth of the True
Fraternity and of the Reign of the Holy Spirit, or of Science allied
to Faith, of Reason united to Intuition, a lasting and celestial
fusion which the Feast of Pentecost symbolizes so well." ( Note: The
Feast of Pentecost, in 1908, fell on 7th June, the opening day of the
Congress.) BLANCHARD, THE FUDOSI AND THE POLAIRES The Polaire
Brotherhood is not generally known in the English speaking world but
since this article is about Victor Blanchard ( who was its president
from 1933) it is appropriate that we present some basic information
regarding its origins, beliefs and activities.

According to the legend of its foundation, the Polaire Brotherhood
had its origin in the meeting between Mario Fille, and the mysterious
hermit Father Julian in 1908 in the hills north of Rome. Father
Julian gave Mario Fille a sheaf of old parchments which included a
divinatory method called "the oracle of the astral force ", to which
he at first gave little interest because the method was painstaking
and lengthy. Twelve years later he made the acquaintance in Egypt of
his fellow countryman and musician Cesare Accomani, who became very
enthusiastic for this method founded on numerological principles. The
method consisted of phrasing one's question in Italian, adding one's
name and the maiden name of one's mother, turning them into numbers
and making with them certain mathematical operations. After several
hours work a series of numbers emerged and these were retranslated
into letters giving a cogent and grammatically correct answer to
one's question.

The Oracle never failed to behave with perfect reliability, although
the answers were sometimes in English or German. Fille was obedient
to Father Julian's command - he alone possessed the key to its use.
They both experimented with the oracle and noted its efficacious
powers and that it allowed them to enter into communication with
the "Esoteric Rosicrucian Centre in the Himalayas", directed by
the "Three Supreme Sages" or the "Little Lights of the Orient" who
proposed to prepare them for "the coming of the Spirit under the sign
of the Rose and Cross". This was in response to one of the first
questions posed to the Oracle - "Who are you?" In 1929 the oracle
gave them the mission of of reconstituting the Polaire Fraternity
whose "members were dispersed in the 15th century through hatred of
the True Light" and indicated to them that the site of the re-
establishment would be Paris. In 1930 the manifesto of the
Polaires "Asia Mysteriosa" signed by Zam Bhotiva (Accomani's
pseudonym) was published and a temple was installed at 36 Junot
Avenue in Montmartre.

Father Julian disappeared in 1908, but had continued to deliver his
messages through the intermediary of the oracle; and through it
revealed he was an emissary of the Great White Lodge of the
Himalayas. Then on the 8th April 1930 Father Julian made his last
communication and announced his imminent death. The first Polaire
Bulletin appeared on 9th May 1930, which was going to convey the
messages of Father Julian in the most modern manner. In a stunning
coincidence, the Neapolitan occultist Giulano Kremmerz (whose first
name is the Italian form of the name Julian) founder of the
Fraternity of the Myriam, who never until now has been cited in
relation to the Polaires fell into a coma on 7th May 1930 and died on
the 16th May 1930, after having predicted his own death. Accomani
and Fille associated themselves with many influential personalities
such as the journalists Ferdinand Divoire and Jean Dorsenne, the
writers Jean Marques-Riviere and Maurice Magre and the synarchic
occultists Jeanne Canudo, Vivian du Mas and Victor Blanchard. Rene
Guenon also associated himself for a short time in their enterprise.
One also finds the names of some other high initiates of the
Fraternity: Henri Meslin du Champigny (Gnostic Bishop under the name
Tau Harmonius), Mgr Lesetre (Roman Catholic Bishop), Prince You-
Kantor of Cambodia, Jean Chaboseau (son of Augustin Chaboseau). If
the Polaires thought of themselves as recipients of the Boreal
tradition of Thule, and this is where they derived their name, in
what manner was it connected to a "Polar" tradition and what was its
mission: e.g. Jean Marques-Riviere the journalist in his forward
to "Asia Mysteriosa " mentions that both Emmanuel Swedenborg and the
early 19th century visionary Catherine Emmerich had believed in a
Spiritual center in Tibet or Tartary " This center has as its mission
or rather its reason for existence , the direction of the spiritual
activities of the Earth". The Bulletin of the Polaires, 9th June
1930 explains: "The Polaires take this name because from all time the
Sacred Mountain, that is the symbolic location of the Initiatic
Centres, has always been qualified by different traditions
as "Polar". And it may very well be that this Mountain was once
really Polar, in the geographical sense of the word, since it is
stated everywhere that the Boreal Tradition (or Primordial Tradition,
source of all traditions) originally had its seat in the Hyperborean
regions. The ceremonies were particularly stunning, the adepts met
in hooded robes. The inner history of the Fraternity is little known -
their archives having been confiscated by the Nazis. It seems there
were many problems in discovering the Grand Master whom the oracle
announced was to soon arrive. Following a new announcement from the
oracle some Polaires rushed to Montsegur and Lordat where they
excavated vainly to find the Grail and the Albigensian Treasure. The
Fraternity was a member of the FUDOSI in 1937 and 1938 and it was in
its temple in avenue Junot that the Convent of August 1937 took
place. The Polaires tried to protect France using their magnetic
powers but it seems the Second World War destroyed all their efforts
and the Fraternity seems not have survived. In 1939 Victor
Blanchard was expelled from the FUDOSI, according to Jean Mallinger.
The reason cited is that on 14th July 1938 he auto-consecrated
himself as the Universal Grand Master of the Rose-Croix and of all
the initiatic orders of the entire world. He sent a proclamation to
each Grand Master of the Federation, which requested allegiance, and
recognition of his new dignity. As a result some members also left
the Martinist Order and Synarchy (amongst them George Lagreze (Sar
Mikael) and Jeanne Guesdon (Sar Puritia). Many of them joined
Augustin Chaboseau's Traditional Martinist Order. He was also
replaced in all of the other high offices he held. Only the Polaires
and the Martinist Order and Synarchy remained loyal to him. However
he was later reconciled with the FUDOSI at the convent of 1946, but
was not re-appointed as Imperator.

Margins of Christianity, Dictionary of the religious world in
contemporary France
Collective, under the direction of Jean-Pierre Chantin
Beauchesne Editor, 277 p.
Paris, 2001.
Here is a dictionary not like the others! A dictionary devoted to the
founders of sects, the catholic or Protestant "dissidents" and to
large the Masters of l?esoterism. Not less than 188 French-
speaking "personalities" of the occult and esoteric world are listed.
The bibliographic records are excellent, swarm with details and
historical precise details.
The reader has notes at the same time historical and philosophical. D?
emblée, the researcher enters a different universe, that of the
mystics and illuminated in search of truth and d?absolu. These men
and these women (who account for 9% of the initiates or sectarian)
were the flag-holders of the parallel Traditions (traditions esoteric
and occult) and their humanistic goals, altruists and, were to
transform the life of the men, but also of the Earth. They failed
all, but the Tradition continues?
The reading of the notes is extremely instructive. C?est as well as
men like Jacques Breyer (founder of the solar Tradition), Papus (the
popularizer of l?esoterism), Victor Blanchard (FUDOSI), Raymond
Bernard (supreme ex-legate of l?AMORC), Rene Guénon (the most famous
esoterist of the XXe century), Paul the Court (Founder d?Atlantis),
Joséphin Péladan (Rosicrucian brotherhood), Alexandre Freytag
(founder of the Friends of l?Homme), etc appear in this dictionary
and are well described. In addition, the authors highlight qu?il
existed at XIXe and the XXe centuries a religious Tradition and
occult very long-lived.
Lastly, cherry on the cake, l?index of the names and the movements is
extremely well presented and constitutes a very good means of making
research. In the same way is a bibliographical selection d?ouvrages
classified by topics placed? in d?ouvrage beginning!
Among the authors, let us quote l?historien Swiss Jean-François
Mayer, professor with l?University of Freiburg and author of many
books on the problem of the sects, Bernard Blandre, president of l?
AIEMR, Régis Dericquebourg, of l?University of Lille, André Baubérot,
the Protestant sociologist, very disputed Massimo Introvigne and not
less disputed Eric Poulat (Directing of research at CNRS). Lastly,
let us underline the excellent notes of Serge Caillet who wrote the
biographies of the former large-Master of the AMORC, Raymond Bernard
(which was in his time one of the most powerful characters of the
esotericism as well in France as in Africa), of Jeanne Guesdon (1884-
1955), which was a Large-Master of the AMORC for the French-speaking
countries, as of Hans Gruter (1874-1953) which was, him also, person
in charge for the AMORC in France.
In spite of these reserves d?usage, this dictionary has its place in
the library of Pasteur, the theologist and the researcher. Only the
price will be able to make reflect the future purchaser: 45.28 euros.

 Sects, of the totalitarian paradises?
Jean-Pierre Stucki and Catherine Munsch,
Desmarets,
Strasbourg, 2000.
Still a book on the sects! But, this one has the characteristic to be
addressed to a regional public, in fact Alsace, Lorraine and the
Franche-Comté. But, it goes without saying, that such a work can
interest the readers of all the areas, and even those from abroad,
because information of this publication is sometimes very interesting.
The authors are journalists of Strasbourg who, after having carried
out an investigation near the former followers and associations "anti-
sects", try to answer several questions about the establishment and
the intrigues of the sects in the area is France. The step is
frightening, because the territory is vast and especially the
diversity of the sects is very large. The authors refer to about
thirty movements, but reality is very different! What the authors
neglected to say, it is that Alsace is the "paradise" of associations
of the rosicrucian type or martinist. Not less than ten sects R+C,
only in the area of Mulhouse! The esotericism is the principal crenel
of the sects in Alsace. It should not be forgotten, indeed, that the
Rosicrucian brotherhood was born in 1614 in Strasbourg.
If the chapter "inventory of fixtures" is average, on the other hand
that of the "entrance doors" is excellent. The infiltration of the
sects in the mediums of health, the schools, the universities or the
vocational training is well highlighted. The testimonys collected by
the two journalists are right and show the methods used well to
recruit new followers.
There is still the "fight against the sects", "why the sects" and
the "solutions" to leave itself there (or for not y entrerâ). Nothing
again in these chapters. It there of tens of books on the market
which say the same thing.
It should be stressed that the authors do not make lace when they
define what is a sect (pp 137 ss.). All the sects do not have
dictators at their head and the comparison with Hitler is rather
malvenue. What thinks the "Friends of the Man" who have members in
Alsace? In addition, the authors should have made the nuance between
the sectarian sects known as "dangerous" and the "drifts". The case
of the Christian Open Door of Mulhouse is typical: this church is
classified like sect by their authors whereas, for us, it is only
about one simple drift of practical theology. The cause first of this
legal problem is that the theology of the ministries was always the
weak point of the churches pentecotists. In addition, to put on the
same foot the "Christian Open Door" and the "Eglise of Pentecost of
Besancon "is a nonsense. The history, the doctrines and especially
the practices are different. Finally to place the Kwasizabantu
Mission as sect is a fault: one should not confuse the South-African
or German Mission with the French Mission. All these annoying errors
are likely to amalgamate all the churches resulting from the Reform
with the sects.
Our conclusion is moderate: the good côtoie the least good. There is
interesting information like it "heated there". This book is worth
only by the quality of the questioned people. The bibliography is non-
existent (4 books only). In spite of its gaps, this book can be
useful to researchers (theologists, psychologists, etc).

Also let us underline that our Belgian friends will be able to read
the book of Alain Lallemand, the sects in Belgium (see our general
