hallo everyone,

about three years ago i founded the xine project, at the time with lots of
support from heiko (who is, like me, still around). it has been a very
exciting time for me and i have learned a lot and with that i'm not just
talking about coding skills - the whole free software developement community
stuff and how it works and the social issues that can arise have always
been a challenge.

the xine project has grown and become a much bigger success than i had ever
imagined (it started out as a small experiment without any big plans for
the future). over time, more and more developers have gathered, some of them
working on some limited aspects of xine, others became really involved and
today know the xine engine code better than i ever did. on the other hand,
my personal life has changed somewhat during the last few months as i
am no longer a student but now employed full-time at university.

all this means that, while i will keep around and will continue to work
on the xine project in my spare time and am willing to support people working
on (from my point of view) interesting aspects of the project, i think it
is time to hand over project leadership to those who are really involved
in xine coding and are spending much more time on it than i do.

so, after very short negotiations in the background, i am very happy to
announce that the following four fellow developers have agreed to take
over xine project leadership from me:

Miguel Freitas
Michael Roitzsch
Mike Melanson
Thibaut Mattern

In other news, Siggi Langauf will be the old and new (but now very officially
instead of just officially ;) ) project administrator (handling mainly the
technical server stuff, i guess - but the question who should do what exactly
will probably be one of the first tasks the new team of project leaders
will have to decide upon >;)).

i'd like to thank all of them for their big contributions to the project and
i'm wishing them the very best for their future work as the new
xine project leaders.

thanks again,

   guenter bartsch
