Subject: TeX Live 2015 and MacTeX-2015 Newsgroups: gmane.comp.tex.macosx Date: Friday 12th June 2015 01:55:37 UTC (about 1 year ago) Folks, Karl Berry released TeX Live 2015 today. The MacTeX web pages have just been updated: http://tug.org/mactex <http://tug.org/mactex> Recall that the links on this site are multiplexed to various mirror sites, to avoid overwhelming popular sites. It sometimes takes a day or two for the mirror sites to get the release (and in that case, a download will produce the 2014 release). So waiting a couple of days might be advisable. Dick Koch PS: There was an interesting last minute change. Recall that /usr/texbin is a link which leads (indirectly) to the TeX binaries for the active TeX distribution. At the Apple Developer Conference WWDC, which is also running this week, Apple announced that the next version of OS X — El Capitan —will not allow users to write to the /usr directory, even if they have Admin permission. Consequently, it is necessary for us to change this link. On all older systems of OS X, the 2015 versions of MacTeX and Basic TeX create two links pointing to the binaries: /usr/texbin /Library/TeX/texbin On El Capitan, only the second link is created. Currently, GUI apps are configured to look for binaries in /usr/texbin. These work fine with the new MacTeX-2015 and BasicTeX-2015. Over the summer, you might like to reconfigure these GUI apps to use /Library/TeX/texbin. You’ll discover that the apps still work, even if you switch to an earlier distribution like TeX Live 2012. When you upgrade to El Capitan in the fall, reconfiguration will become mandatory. The TeX Dist pref pane will work with either link. Indeed at the moment we know of no other TeX problems with El Capitan. |
