Subject: Menu Structure Newsgroups: gmane.comp.multimedia.matroska.devel Date: 2003-03-13 05:48:32 GMT (6 years, 16 weeks, 3 days, 3 hours and 31 minutes ago) I originally posted this in the Corecodec.com forums because that is where I could get to, but I really meant to post it to the ML, so here it is. There are four things that I want to say about Menu's in Matroska. 1. We need them. This is a pretty simple fact given all of the features within Matroska. 2. Defining the menu specs should be outside of the scope of the Matroska specs. It just isn't a part of the container, and defining it in the specs is akin to saying MP3 is the official audio type of Matroska. If we define a menu system outside of the Matroska specs, then it has the possibility to be used in other containers too, such as OGM, MCF, MPCF, etc. 3. We need a way to mirror the way that DVD menus work. There are two reasons for this, first it would be very convenient to be able to duplicate the menu of a DVD and would make a full DVD to Matroska backup possible. Second, there are already several DVD menu authoring tools, and it would greatly increase the speed that people could start using the menus if we could use the output of already existing programs. 4. We need a control track with at least some simple scripting. DVD menus are great, and a lot can be done with them. However, to increase the abilities of Matroska, we need a control track capable of some simple scripting. http://www.matroska.org |
