Subject: MPC SV7/8 in matroska Newsgroups: gmane.comp.multimedia.matroska.devel Date: 2002-12-17 09:23:58 GMT (6 years, 28 weeks, 3 days, 21 hours and 49 minutes ago) Hi, our friend and dev team member raghav from India PMed me again telling me he is planning to look into MPC sources for starting to work on a mpc2matroska.exe ( probably with Steve's mpa2mcf.exe as a reference ) . Of course, as libmatroska is not finished he will use the old libmcf from MCF CVS for the time being to be able to start development, and replace libmcf with libmatroska once its there ( if anybody feels this is not the right way to do with MPC pls shout ). Frank is still busy with making SV8 framing it seems, and for sure there will be a huge number of existing SV7 MPC files, so i guess we should support both. As a result raghav's work will not be in vain if he is looking into putting SV7 streams into matroska, as we will need that anyway. Again, please shout if you dont agree with this and you feel matroska should only support SV8 ( Frank ? Is there anything planned to allow converting of SV7 into SV8 files ? ). I was asking this question already on the old mcf-devel list, but i guess Frank was not reading actively at that time and Steve was busy, so there was no real reply at all. - How do we do it ? Should we put the complete SV7 framing into matroska, or is there any chance to take only the data out and copy the relevant frame info ( Steve told me MPC is frame based and each frame holds important data needed for decoding, right ? ) into a MPC private sector of the blocks to keep overhead a bit smaller ? - @Frank : Are there any DirectShow filters planned for MPC from anybody that you were aware of ? Reason i am asking is that we could probably use the same filters if we keep the MPC framing as is, same way as we do with MP3 now and will do with AC3/AAC ( but not with Vorbis ) in future. - If there are no Dshow filters planned for MPC ( audio people were using winamp for it, so there are existing winamp plugins for MPC ), is it possible to include a MPC decoder into our alpha alpha matroska parser ( being called mcfparser for the time being, as its based on old libmcf |
