"Back to School" with Linux Education: LPI Academy

(Sacramento, CA, USA: September 4, 2013) - The Linux Professional
Institute (LPI: http://www.lpi.org), the world's premier
certification organization, announced the launch of LPI Academy, a Linux
education program for accredited degree / diploma-granting
academic institutions, high schools, middle schools, and government
training programs. The LPI Academy will assist educators to prepare
students and employees for careers in Linux and Open Source technology

"A recent industry survey of IT employers indicated that they were
planning to hire a Linux professional in the near future. LPI Academy is
designed to help learning institutions prepare students for the
expanding career opportunities in Open Source technology. We are pleased
to offer this important educational resource to academia that will
assist in the development of the IT workforce of tomorrow," said Jim
Lacey, president and CEO of LPI.

The LPI Academy program empowers educators to prepare students for an
entry level Linux Essentials course (a globally recognized "Certificate
of Achievement") and to further students' or employees' career path as a
Systems Administrator via LPI's professional certification track. At
present, the LPI Academy is available only in North America and without
any enrollment fee for participating organizations. For more
information on LPI's Linux Essentials and professional LPIC
certifications see: http://www.lpi.org/linux-certifications

LPI Academy curriculum resources consist of the following elements:

     * LPI Exam Objectives and Examinations
     * LPI Partner Course Materials
     * Classroom Instruction
     * Classroom Labs
     * Instructor training

These benefits of the LPI Academy program enable instructors to include
LPI educational resources into existing organizational curricula without
the burden of creating new learning materials that align with their own
programs. Furthermore, LPI Academy has no upfront participation fees
for qualifying organizations as is common with other "affiliation-based"
IT training programs.

LPI Academy also leads students through successive levels of learning
achievement towards a concrete and lucrative career path: commencing
with the introductory Linux Essentials "Certificate of Achievement" and
moving to the CompTIA Linux+ powered by LPI certification -- a 3-in-1
professional certification designation (Linux+ powered by LPI, LPIC-1
and SUSE CLA). For more information on the 3-in-1 certification see:

Finally, the LPI Academy assists students to connect with LPI's global
community and Jobs Initiative so that they may obtain valuable work
experience before graduation from their formal education program. This
combination of education + certification + experience provides students
with a competitive edge when seeking that all important first job and a
subsequent lifelong learning path for career advancement.
