Hi folks,

I am very happy to report that the suggestions from Patrick did the 
trick. If, for some reason, anybodies iPAQ H5500 should suffer from the 
same problem do the following:

- insert the iPAQ h5500 into the craddle for approx. 2 hours
- after 2 hours take it out
- wait for another hour while the iPAQ is left disconnected from the 
power
- after one hour press the reset button
- re-insert it into the craddle
- after 5 min. take it out again and reset it again
- the iPAQ should now boot up normally

This has worked for my H5500.
